History
Victory Baptist Church, formerly known as First Southern Baptist Church of Powell (FSBC) was first organized as The Mission, in a small cabin off of Jefferson St in January of 1957.
They called Reverend Bob Faulkner as its pastor, and on March 29th, 1957 The Mission was formally constituted as First Southern Baptist Church (FSBC) with 61 charter members.
Just a few blocks away, on Gilbert Street, a plot of land was donated by Henry Berring and a ground breaking ceremony was held that spring of 1957.
During the summer of 1957 FSBC hosted their first VBS! A new church building was constructed by the membership and was dedicated on August 11, 1957!
That same month, the church ordained Allen Duggar and Glenn Montgomery as its first deacons. Followed by Lynn Elwood, Henry Shirley and Charley Hampton in April 1958.
In December of 1960 Reverend Ed Rogers was called as pastor where the church continued to grow.
A church library was started in 1963 and a new addition to the church was completed in November 1964.
In 1973 a new mission was started in Clark with a dedication service held on November 25th, 1973 and was constituted as Bennett Creek Baptist Church on April 24th, 1977.
In 1982, under Reverend Jack Park an addition to the church’s educational building was dedicated, and a ground breaking for a new sanctuary was held on March 31st, 1985.
The beautiful new sanctuary was completed and dedicated on June 21st, 1987.
On February 21st, 1993 a note burning ceremony was held, for the church had paid off construction debts amounting to over $81,000!
In October 1994 a new mission was started in Lovell.
On December 1, 1995 it was as called Faith Southern Baptist Mission and constituted as Faith Southern Baptist Church in 1996.
The first out of State Mission Trip was conducted during the summer of 2002 in Poplar Missouri.
In 2006 the church hosted a youth revival led by Randy Houge, which was attended by more than 150 young people.
In 2023 FSBC began the process of Revitalization with a team of 7 members, each representing an age group within the church.
In the spring of 2024 the foyer and stage underwent major renovations. In September 2024 members voted on renaming the church as Victory Baptist Church.
